The prophets Brief summary

Books of the Prophets of Israel

The word "prophet"In our mind associated with the prediction. But more importantly, the prophet reproves, announces the will of Godthe words of God.
From the 8th to the 3rd centuries BC, the prophetic spirit reigned throughout the world.
The Bible contains four books of the great prophets (Isaiah, Daniel, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel) and twelve books of the minor prophets.
The main work of the prophet is to tirelessly proclaim that God lives and is present here in the life of Israel.
The prophet should have the same qualities as the authors of the Bible:

- purity of heart,

- determination,

- willingness to self-sacrifice.
A very difficult relationship develops between the prophet and God.
A prophet may inadequately perceive God's will, may resist it.The prophet is a living person, sometimes hesitant, but as a result fulfilling the will of God.
Oftenthe prophetscommitted varioussymbolic actions to attract attentionto yourselfto the statementGod's will regarding, for example, a nation or a particular person.

From the moment Christ came, prophecy in the biblical sense was no longer necessary.
The last prophetic book of the Bible is the Apocalypse.
In the late Christian time, the prophets had already disappeared, and this gift disappeared from the Church directly. Although the rank of holy fools in a sense, continued this phenomenon.
The image of the external madness or extravagance of the prophet was necessary in order to attract attention to his unusual look and to listen to what the prophet would say.
In the Old Testament, one can speak of the summary teaching of the prophets. This teaching had three main points.
1. Theme of the reminder of the One Living God
God lives, God is one, there are no other gods except the True God, the only God. That is, the God of Israel is the Most High God and one for all.
And the later prophets will say that the God who is in Israel is not the God of Israel only and not for Israel only, but the God to whom all nations will come as a result.
In relation to the law of Moses, the prophets are another doctrine, deeper and closer to Christianity. Prophets tirelessly reminded of God, said that not external rituals are necessary for God, but internal, spiritual cleansing. Here is the true sacrifice to God.
2. The theme of morality
Next to you, in your story, the people of Israel, the living Yahweh is present, he is holy, as we remember what the holiness of God is, he is holy. How can you not be holy next to him? How can you not strive for holiness next to him?
Along with this topic, the theme of God's chosen people of the Jewish people was often mentioned.
That is, again: you are elected - and so what? Following the reminder of being chosen, there were constant denunciations of immorality and that, having reproached the commandments of Moses, people only externally commit the law, inwardly they are full of all unrighteousness and impurity. This is the second topic that the prophets were very excited about.
3. Theme of the Messiah
The theme, which appeared in later times, from about the VIII century before Christ. This topic did not immediately appear in the prophets. It seems that it was in general a revelation of God, which arose only at the last stage of Old Testament Judaism.
In Old Testament Israel, the theme of the Messiah did not rise to the prophets.
The first prophets generally did not speak about the Messiah, but about the salvation that God must perform in Israel. They did not speak about a man or a messenger, but about salvation. That is, God's deliverance must come, some fact of life. And the mechanism of this deliverance was not known. (32:55)

Then, gradually, in the prophetic revelation, the image of the Savior, the Anointed One, the Messiah, who would bring peace to Israel, would bring prosperity and well-being began to emerge.
The Messiah was presented as a majestic king, a liberator, a victor who would one day defeat all enemies. And in the Gospel this, as we remember, is presented as one of the temptations of the Lord in the wilderness.
The prophetic books proclaim the wrath of God, the mercy of God, then they call for repentance, they remind of the imminent end, and this all alternates between each other. ANDrepeatsagain and again. There is no integrity in these books, unlike, for example, the books of the wise of Israel.

The prophet always goes against the stream, against what they want to hear from him. And at that moment when Israel flourishes, Jerusalem flourishes, all the dangers have passed and an alliance with a good, strong neighbor has been concluded, the prophet can come out and say that as a speck of dust God will blow you off the face of the earth if you do not repent.
Bible- not just a chronicle. itBook of salvation. This is not a chronicle of ancient events, but an instruction on how to behave in certain cases.
Only in antiquity did Israel fall into the trap, and now our soul is falling. Then Israel was careless, and now we are. Then came a miraculous deliverance by the faith of a few, now for a small part. If I collect small forces of the soul, then I have the right to hope for the miracle of the deliverance of God and me. That is, these lessons of historical and prophetic must be taken by us spiritually.
In the prophecies of the image of the Messiah was twofold.
On the one hand - the glorious king, who will win, but on the other hand - the persecuted slave, who will be rejected. Thistwofoldthe image was preparing the Old Testament for accepting the Savior.

Prophetic books resonate with historical ones. The prophets help us in the awareness of Christian historiosophy (for example, the book about the prophet Avvakum).
