Super Moon 2017

Super Moon 2017

On the night of 3 to 4 December, the inhabitants of the Earth could observe the super moon 2017. The satellite of our planet approached as close as possible and looked 14% larger than usual and 30% brighter!

1. The term “super-moon” is not included in the dictionary of astrophysicists: it migrated to the media from the predictions of the American astrologer Richard Nollie, who first used it in 1979.

2. In accordance with the idea of Richard, the Moon enters a super-moon phase, approaching Earth more than 361,524 km (224,641 miles). During the year, this can occur up to six times: in 2016, it was possible to see the Super Moon three times. In 2017, these events are only two: June 24 and December 3, while the winter will be the most spectacular. (Photo by Miguel Sierra):

3. In the December full moon, the Moon will approach the Earth for the minimum distance in 2017 - 357,495 km. The satellite of the Earth at this moment looks 14% larger and 30% brighter than when passing the most distant point, the apogee.

5. The December super-moon will initiate a series of similar phenomena: the next two January full moons will also be considered super-moon. This, in particular, on January 2 and 31, 2018, while the super moon of the end of the month also coincides with the total lunar eclipse, which will be seen from beginning to end in the Far East (private phases can be observed in Moscow).
