Claudio Vieira de Oliveira, 37, who was born with a rare disease, was able to surprise the doctors who told his mother to let him die of starvation immediately after he was born.
The fact is that the Brazilian was born with a rare disease of the joints, due to which his limbs were severely deformed and his head turned upside down.12

His mother, Maria José, said that when Claudio was born, doctors said that her son could not survive because he could barely breathe.

“Some advised not to feed him, claiming that he had better die,” she said.13

The woman did not listen to the doctors and did everything for her child to live. At eight years old, Claudio, who had always had to be worn on his hands, learned to walk on his knees. After that, the family was forced to buy an apartment on the first floor so that the boy could go out without jumping the stairs.114

Another complication is that due to its unusual deformations, Claudio cannot use a wheelchair. However, despite the physical limitations, Claudio of Monte Santo, Brazil, challenged doctors to become an accountant and speaker.

“When I was a child, I always found something to do. I constantly studied because I don’t like to depend on other people,” he says. “Now I’m doing bank accounting, doing financial research for clients.”115

The man says that despite all the difficulties, he knows how to turn on the TV and radio himself, call from a mobile phone, use a computer and the Internet.

On the keyboard, Claudio is typing with a pen that holds his mouth. He manages his phone and computer with his lips, and moves around the city thanks to special shoes. His desire for independence and constant work on himself helped him to successfully complete school, and then get an accounting degree at the State University of Feira de Santana.116

"Throughout my life, I was able to adapt my body to live a full life. Now I do not consider myself different.
