History of the Leaning Tower

Initially, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was conceived as a bell tower of a Catholic church. Its construction began in 1173 and lasted two hundred years. The author of this miracle of architectural art is Bonano Pisano.

To this day, it is not known for sure whether the slope of the tower was conceived in the project, or whether it was formed as a result of a wrong project.

Today, experts are more inclined to think that the cause of the slope was the soft soil on which the architectural monument stands, and a small basement area. It is also known that the first signs of sagging were found in 1178 during the construction of the third level. At that time, the designers strengthened the soil and walls of the tower, thanks to which they managed to open an unfinished structure.

Leaning tower of leaningConstruction work lasted until the year 1360. The first deviation reached at the very beginning only 5 centimeters. When it was discovered, construction work was suspended for a long 100 years, during which it increased to 50 centimeters.For this reason, it is believed that the construction of the Tower of Pisa took place in two stages.

Bell tower

An interesting is the history of the bell tower, for which the construction of the tower was originally started in the city. Today, the following bells are installed in the tower:

  • Paskvereccha;
  • Tertz;
  • Vesprucho;
  • Crocifisso;
  • Assunta;
  • San Ranieri.

Large wooden bellIt is noteworthy that each of them poured out specifically for the intonation of their own notes. For example, Paskvereccha is G flat, and Vespruccio. The newest bell is Assunta - an identical copy of the Dal Pozo bell, made to sound the note of salt. During the Second World War, it was destroyed. But after the end of hostilities, he was restored again and sent to the museum. And in the place of the old bell already in 2004 Assunta appeared.

Initially, the bells rang each at his own time, notifying the city of the onset of liturgy. This tradition has not been preserved to this day. Today, the bells ring at the same time, notifying the city of the coming of noon or the beginning of worship.

Scientists today suggest that in 2008 ended the "fall" of the structure. But despite this, ongoing work continues to strengthen this architectural work of art, designed to preserve it for posterity.Repeatedly replaced the destroyed columns.

Recently, the foundation has been strengthened so that the city does not lose its main symbol - the Leaning Tower.

Not long ago, in the period from 1990 to 2001, this architectural object was closed to tourists.

It says that the architect Bonano Pisano, at the request of the clergy, built an amazingly beautiful structure, designed to become the bell tower of the Pisa Cathedral. The building was the top of architectural art, striking beauty, which is remarkable, towered above the ground with a smooth arrow. But the clergy did not appreciate the merit and skill of Pisano, deciding to deceive the master and not pay him money. Then Bonnano looked at the tower and said: "Come with me!". At that moment, she leaned toward the architect, trying to budge.

The city in which the Tower of Pisa is located is called Pisa. It became its symbol, attracting thousands of tourists annually to this wonderful place located in the Italian province of Tuscany.

A feature of such an architectural object is the slope of the structure, in which the tower has been standing for more than one hundred years without falling. To a certain extent, this is due to the Italians, who maintain the good condition of the building.
