A private garden is an opportunity to enjoy fresh and safe vegetables in season. But modern summer residents have shown that the harvest can be obtained much earlier. To do this, it is enough to create a greenhouse with your own hands. This is a special facility designed for growing seedlings in a still cool time, and according to the construction technique and materials, the greenhouse is much more economical than a greenhouse.

Concept and types

greenhouses and greenhouses with their own handsGreenhouse is called a structure heated by the use of natural sources of heat - biofuels. It can be both solar energy and the processes of decay or burning of humus. Accordingly, it was from the word "soared" or "greenhouse effect" that the name of the structure occurred. This is, in fact, the main difference between a greenhouse and a greenhouse.

Indeed, in the latter heating is carried out with the help of electricity or other artificial heat carriers. In the greenhouses - natural heating. Therefore, even large buildings, in which heating is carried out in a natural way, are not called greenhouses, but greenhouses.You can see the differences in the photo from the network.

The size of the building may be different. But, given that heat from decay and solar heating is not always enough, greenhouses are often less than greenhouses. These are mini buildings with a small area and height. In turn, greenhouses can be of different sizes.

Work in the greenhouse is carried out through specific holes, because its parameters do not allow a person to go inside. Usually, hatches or a hinged roof are formed for this, which makes it possible to care for plants in comfortable conditions. But why such structures are necessary? Is not it easier to build a greenhouse or immediately plant seedlings in open ground?

The fact is that mini-buildings protect thermophilic seedlings from cold nights and spring frosts, which is quite common in our climatic conditions. They also do not occupy as much space as greenhouses, and a high-quality greenhouse will help to get a harvest a few weeks earlier than that of the neighbors.

The classification of greenhouses is quite complicated. So, depending on the location, there are 2 large groups of products:

  1. In-depth.
    For their construction (even if it is a mini greenhouse) will need to dig a trench in the ground.Among the advantages is to highlight the good allocation and heat preservation. Among the shortcomings they point out the need to create a trench for biofuels, the minimum depth of which should be 30 cm or more. Also, as the humus consumption, the soil under the plants begins to subside, and they deepen, which affects the comfort during the care of the seedlings. And even in mini trenches (30 cm) the drawdown is palpable. Rate design features can be in the photo from the Internet.
  2. Overhead.
    This is a more modern design with a box for planting seedlings. They give more comfort during the care of plants, while the humus in the box can be periodically poured. Such greenhouses can have various sizes: from mini models for 4-5 plants to solid structures. However, the drawback of such products is a small heat generation, since the capacity of the soil tank is limited and often biofuels are not enough to heat even a mini-structure during an unexpected cooling. Also, such buildings can be moved if you suddenly decide to change something in the landscape of your site. The possibilities of such buildings can be seen in the photo on the Internet.

Depending on the type of construction, recessed greenhouses are divided into another 3 types:

  • with a lean-to roof - they are also called Russian;
  • with a gable roof - the second name is "Belgian";
  • arched buildings.

To see all types of structures and to appreciate them will help numerous photos from the network.

Also, as well as greenhouses, greenhouses are classified depending on the material from which they are made.

There are hundreds of types of such structures, but the most popular are such types of them:

  • from polycarbonate;
  • from window frames;
  • from the pipes.

Of course, it is much easier to buy a ready-made greenhouse. But if you want to save a little or just like to build something, you can build such a mini-structure with your own hands.

Creating a greenhouse from polycarbonate

Many create greenhouses and mini facilities for seedlings, covering them with the most ordinary film. But in the modern world there are more energy efficient materials. Among them is to highlight polycarbonate. This is a special type of plastic that retains heat well, does not allow cool inside and allows the useful sun rays to go inside the building, which is especially important for plants.

Additional advantages of this material are lightness and durability: polycarbonate is quite difficult to damage or break. Due to such properties, greenhouses have been made of it for a long time, and now, too, greenhouses.

It is quite difficult to build a polycarbonate greenhouse with your own hands. However, if you are still aiming to perform all the processes yourself, you should choose a simple structure. For example, a recessed greenhouse with a hinged lid is quite simple in terms of construction. There will be no difficulties: the drawings are simple, the design is quite doable.

So, to make a high-quality mini greenhouse in the garden of polycarbonate, it is necessary to perform the following processes:

  1. how to make a greenhouse with your own handsCreate drawings.
    It should be understood that the parameters should not only meet your wishes, but also the standards for such structures. So, if you want to make a high-quality greenhouse, then the drawings must contain a construction width of 1.45 - 1.5 m. After all, narrower buildings will contain an insufficient amount of humus for high-quality heating and may not withstand unexpected frosts. The drawings also contain information about the design features: height, depth, type of opening, etc. These are important points that you should think about before going to the store.You can find an example of such a drawing in the photo from the network.
  2. We buy materials.
    Carefully count the number of necessary consumables, which contain drawings, and add 50–60 cm or even 1 m to them. This is a margin for errors, miscalculations, etc. Believe me, it’s better to let the excess stay the wrong moment. In addition, you can make a skeleton of improvised means: frames, old parts of stainless steel, pipes. Examples with photos of similar homemade designs are in the network.
  3. Selection of a place.
    Sunny glades and open areas of your garden are more suitable for this building. It is also better to make a greenhouse at one of the highest points of the territory in order to avoid warming and rotting of plants. Keep in mind that if the groundwater comes close, then you should not do an in-depth greenhouse, only above-ground structures.
  4. Surface preparation.
    If you produce an in-depth mini-greenhouse, then it’s worth starting with creating a foundation pit. It should have a trapezoidal shape (narrowing to the bottom) and a depth of 30 to 80 cm. The selection of depth should depend not on physical fatigue, but on climate. The colder spring you have, the more you need to make a ditch and the warmer the greenhouse. Creating a pit, you should strengthen its walls with boards. Then proceed to the backfill.Bottom will be biofuel (a mixture of manure, rotten leaves, peat and mineral additives), and above it will be exactly 20 cm of soil. Accordingly, the amount of humus depends on the depth of the pit and will be -20 cm from this indicator. Having filled the recess, we proceed to the creation of a crown for the upper part of the mini construction. For this, logs that have a diameter of 18 cm and up to 21-22 cm are suitable. If there is no log, you can use bars from old frames. From wood we form the contour of the future construction. You can see the features of the calculations in the photo from the network.
  5. Creating a frame.
    The simplest is the arched roof structure. To do this, take the bars, with a diameter of 5 cm. Of them should be made the basis for the frame, the length of which will correspond to the length of the greenhouse. On this wood it is worth fixing sheets of polycarbonate. If there are no old frames or bars, you can replace them with available materials. For example, you should try to make the frame of the pipes, just bending them in the form of an arch, followed by fixing the coating of polycarbonate. You can also use metal profiles made of stainless steel or galvanized.
  6. Polycarbonate installation.
    To make a greenhouse, you need 1 sheet of polycarbonate.Standardly, this material is 2.1 m wide and 6 m long. It should be divided into 4 parts. 3 of them should have dimensions of 1.7 m, and the rest - 90 cm (cut across, using a construction knife). Now inspect the sheets, it is important that the sunscreen film was on top of the roof, and not inside the structure. Only after that you can proceed to installation. Sheets fix the screws on 1 long part of the frame, making a small overlap. Then, we bend them, forming an arch, and fasten it on the beam, lowering the hinged cover on the second base of the frame. Now we take a sheet of polycarbonate, which is 90 cm wide. It should be attached to the gaps on the side and outline the contour of the future sidewall (2 pcs.). Then we cut out the parts along the contour and fix it with screws on the frame. It remains only to walk scotch at the seams and joints of the sheets, just cover the crown base and the greenhouse is ready. You can estimate the approximate result in the photo from the network.

Also, if you decide to build a greenhouse for cucumbers with your own hands, it is permissible to complicate the design by creating a gable or opening roof. But to build a building will be an order of magnitude more difficult, moreover, more building materials will be needed.

Building a greenhouse from scrap materials

The construction of a polycarbonate greenhouse requires investment. If you want to save money, you can build a greenhouse with your own hands from scrap materials. So you significantly reduce the cost item, and possibly eliminate costs altogether, because everything you need is already at your home.

Among the most popular materials it is worth to distinguish buildings from old frames and structures made from polypropylene or metal-plastic pipes. Many after the repair or construction left similar materials, so why not use them sensibly.

We build a greenhouse using pipes

For the construction of this design you will need the following materials:

  • greenhouse do-it-yourself drawingsseveral meters of pipes (depending on the size of the greenhouse (from 6 m and more);
  • a film with a width of 1.5 m and a length exceeding the length of the future greenhouse by 1.5 - 2 m;
  • bricks - 6-10 pcs.

For the construction of a greenhouse from the pipes should perform the following actions:

  1. Choosing a place for a greenhouse.
    It is better that it was a sunny plot on a hill.
  2. The contour of the future building can be drawn on the ground with a stick.
    Then we dig a pit in it, 30–80 cm deep. Put a mixture of humus with peat and leaves on its bottom, then sprinkle it with a layer of soil at 20 cm.
  3. Filling the greenhouse, we begin to install the pipes.
    Just stick them in the ground on the one hand the pit, bend and also stick in the ground on the other. If desired, you can fix the ends of the pipes on the base of the beam. To do this, take the remnants of the old window frames or frame, with a thickness of at least 5 cm and a length corresponding to the same indicator in the greenhouse. Pipe trimming is also bent, but fixed with wood screws on the wood base.
  4. Cover up frame.
    We cover the frame of the pipe film. The ends of such an improvised cover are fixed with the help of bricks. If you used fixation of pipes on the rails of the frames, then it is necessary to attach the film with nails.

You can evaluate the expected result of the work in the photo from the Internet. Also in the network you will find a lot of ideas and different variations of self-made structures for growing seedlings.

We build a greenhouse of window frames

This type of construction is suitable for those who have left the old frame. In this case, the design of them is suitable not only for seedlings, but also for the cultivation of full-fledged cucumbers, tomatoes, etc.

For the construction of a greenhouse of frames you will need such components:

  • 2 long boards, 2 logs (from 5 cm) or 2 beams;
  • several window frames;
  • a little brick (if there is old - it will fit);
  • about 30 - 40 screws.
The amount of materials depends on the size of the future greenhouse. So, it follows from the number of old frames. The length of the structure depends on this indicator. If there is a lot of basic material, it is better to make several greenhouses. Width with height also depends on this factor.

The process of building a greenhouse from frames consists of the following steps:

  1. simple greenhouses from the frames with their own handsPreparation of wooden components.
    Boards and parallel bars should be cut to the required length and treated with bitumen mastic. If you do not have the latter, you can replace it with used engine oil.
  2. We form the basis.
    We lay out a brick along the contour of the future structure. From above it is necessary to put parallel bars. On them, from the inside, we fasten the boards in a vertical position with a step smaller than the width of the existing frame from the window. Then from the outside we place more boards, but horizontally. It is important that the edges of the horizontal and vertical elements coincide. Having completed this process, it's time to secure the rafters, making it in the shape of a house.
  3. Frame installation
    Simply lock them onto the frame with self-tapping screws.It is important that 1 frame was functional and opened.

Now you know that making a greenhouse with your own hands, as in the photo from the network, without any help is quite real. It is enough to get some building materials, to work a little and get the desired result.
